GRADES OF FLOORING

CLEAR PLAINSAWN contains mixed grain patterns. Materials are virtually free of knots with only an occasional pin knot 1/2″ or smaller in diameter. Occasional figure will be present.

SELECT PLAINSAWN contains both leaf and linear grain patterns with knots and other natural character markings. Knots will not be greater than 1 1/2” on their minor axis. Select Plainsawn may contain small cracks or filled cracks without limit.

DISTRESSED PLAINSAWN contains mixed grain patterns with knots and other natural character markings throughout without limit. Nail holes, minor cracks, filled cracks or other distressed markings may be present.

PERFECTION QUARTERSAWN contains 98% clear material with a minimum of 90% having a linear, straight grained face. Perfection Quartersawn is the highest grade of flooring that Plankmaker produces.

SELECT QUARTERSAWN contains 75% or more clear material with a minimum of 75% straight grain. Knot size is limited to 1 ½’’ on the minor axis. This was the grade of flooring most sought after and traditionally used in Colonial America.

DISTRESSED QUARTERSAWN contains  75% to 100% straight grain with knots and other natural character markings throughout without limit. Nail holes, minor cracks, filled cracks, or other distressed markings are also present without limit.

Note: Reclaimed species may or may not come in all of these grades.
